How to Cook Split Peas

Method 1: Instant Pot

  1. In an Instant Pot, combine 1 cup rinsed split peas to 3 parts water or broth. (Use less water if you want firmer split peas.)
  2. Cook for 15 minutes.
  3. Let the pressure release naturally for 5 to 10 minutes.


Method 2: Stovetop

  1. In a saucepan, combine 1 cup rinsed split peas and 2 cups water or broth.
  2. Bring the split peas to a boil on high heat.
  3. Reduce to low heat, cover with a lid, and simmer for 25 minutes or until tender.
  4. Strain and use the cooked split peas.
