How to Cook Lentils
Method 1: Instant Pot
- In an Instant Pot, combine 1 cup rinsed lentils to 1 1/3 cups water or broth. (Use more water for red, yellow, and orange lentils, or if you want softer lentils.)
- Cook for 8 minutes.
- Let the pressure release naturally for 5 to 10 minutes.
Method 2a: Stovetop (red, yellow, and orange lentils)
- In a saucepan, combine 1 cup rinsed lentils with 2 to 3 cups water or broth, depending on the desired level of creaminess.
- Bring the lentils to a boil on high heat.
- Reduce to low heat, cover with a lid, and simmer for 20 minutes or until the desired texture.
Method 2b: Stovetop (all other types of lentils)
- Boil the rinsed lentils in water or broth (like spaghetti) for 18 to 20 minutes.
