Brown Basmati Rice

Brown basmati rice is a nutritious, whole-grain long-grain rice with a nutty flavor, light brown color, and fluffy texture. It is a healthier alternative to white rice, offering more fiber, zinc, and B vitamins, and has a lower glycemic index. It is versatile, easy to cook, and popular in curries (Indian food), salads, and pilafs.

Method 1: Instant Pot

  1. Rinse 1 cup brown basmati rice to remove excess starch.
  2. Combine with 1 1/4 cups water in an Instant Pot.
  3. Pressure cook for 22 minutes.
  4. Allow Instant Pot to release pressure naturally (about 10 minutes).
  5. Fluff with a fork and serve.

Method 2: Stovetop

  1. Rinse 1 cup brown basmati rice to remove excess starch.
  2. Combine rice with 2 cups water in a saucepan.
  3. Bring to boil, then cover and reduce heat to low and simmer for 35-40 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and let it sit for 5-10 minutes before serving.
  5. Fluff with a fork and serve.

Notes

  • Keep the same water-to-rice proportions when making larger batches.
